Our Mission, Principles and Values
Each team member at every Sunrise community is trained to understand the value of our mission, Principles of Service and Core Values, and are encouraged to be guided by them in all they do for our residents every day. These are the hallmarks of Sunrise.
Right from the beginning, Sunrise’s mission has been to champion quality of life for all seniors. Sunrise's Founders, Paul and Terry Klaassen, developed their resident-centered philosophy of care based on deep convictions about how to achieve the best quality of life for each individual. Those beliefs are now the foundation of the Principles of Service and Core Values that guide and focus our team members at all of our senior living communities.
Our Principles of Service
Everyone who works at Sunrise is guided by these six Principles of Service.
We value the life experiences of every senior and give each the respect they deserve. For example, in our Reminiscence Neighbourhoods, residents living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of memory loss are guided to engage in meaningful activities that give them a sense of purpose and create pleasant days.
Nurturing the Spirit
We care for the whole person-mind, body and spirit. Our team members care not only for the physical needs of our residents, but are committed to providing opportunities for social interaction, mental exercise and spiritual fulfillment that suit the tastes and preferences of each resident.
We recognize that every one of our residents is unique. Each person has a life story we want to hear and understand, with personal tastes and preferences that will be respected.
Enabling Freedom of Choice
We empower seniors to live as they wish by offering choices. Options are a way of life at Sunrise, whether it’s in the dining room where there’s always a special menu of daily options along with à la carte favourites, or in a resident’s suite, where they can wake up as late or as early as they want – just like they’ve always done.
We encourage our residents’ right to self-reliance in whatever ways possible. Our communities are specially designed to encourage mobility in a safe environment, and care managers are trained to support our residents' choices whenever possible.
Involving Family and Friends
We welcome family and friends to participate in all community activities and events. There are no "visiting hours" at Sunrise, and we encourage visitors to spend time with residents at any time of day or night. Our care managers and community leaders regularly communicate with family members to ensure we are providing the very best service for our residents.
Our Core Values
Sunrise works to ensure these core values are instilled in all of our team members:
- Joy in Service
